MARCH 18 / 10 – 2 PM: PRACTICING INTENTIONAL SOLIDARITY: IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO GET DOWN/PRACTICA DE SOLIDARIDAD INTENCIONAL: TOMA TODO UN PUEBLO PARA PROGRESAR

How does a village get down? What’s the difference between including LGTBQ, immigrants and people with disabilities and dreaming with, building with, and moving with each other? In this workshop, we’ll explore the dynamics of practicing productive and thoughtful solidarity across identities, experiences, and movements. We’ll create concrete strategies to develop intentional solidarity that sustains community, shares power, and builds coalitions.¿Cómo avanza una comunidad? ¿Cuál es la diferencia entre la inclusión de la comunidad gay (LGTBQ), inmigrantes y personas con discapacidades, y soñar, construir, y avanzar uno con el otro? En este taller, exploraremos las dinámicas de practicar solidaridad productiva y considerada a través de identidades, experiencias y movimientos. Crearemos estrategias concretas para desarrollar solidaridad intencional que sostenga a la comunidad, comparta el poder, y forme coaliciones.
April 01 / 10 – 2 PM: MAKING DECISIONS, MAKING MOVES: USING CONSENSUS TO PUSH US FORWARD/TOMANDO DECISIONES, TOMANDO PASOS: USO DEL CONSENSO PARA AVANZAR
CRITICAL RESISTANCE – LISA ALATORRE AND ISAAC ONTIVEROS
Horizontal decision-making tools help grassroots organizations make large and small decisions that affect the make up and trajectory of their work. Consensus Decision Making processes enables and develops greater participation from members and ultimately it helps align our visions for a different and better world. BUT, it’s also hard work. How do we make sure everyone is participating? How do we make tough-calls in a pinch? What do we do when we get stuck? How do we keep the process fresh and vibrant? This workshop will breakdown the basics of consensus decision-making; work through how to use it strongly, while understanding and addressing its weaknesses; and talk about how it can been implemented on local, regional, and national levels.Las herramientas de la toma decisiva horizontal ayudan a organizaciones de base a tomar decisiones grandes y pequeñas que afectan la composición y trayectoria de su trabajo. Los procesos de la Toma de Decisiones de Consenso permiten y desarrollan una mayor participación de nuestros miembros, y ultimadamente ayudan a alinear nuestras visiones para un mundo diferente y mejor. ¿Cómo aseguraremos una participación completa? ¿Cómo tomaremos decisiones difíciles inmediatas? ¿Qué haremos si nos atoramos? ¿Cómo mantendremos el proceso fresco y vibrante? Este taller detallará los elementos básicos de la toma de decisiones de consenso; intentará mantenerlo fuerte, mientras se pueda entender y tratar con sus debilidades; y dialogar sobre como se podría implementar a nivel local, regional, y nacional.

In this skills-building workshop, participants will explore ways that popular education approaches can support community organizing, and workshop and practice developing popular education curriculum in a collaborative group setting.En este taller de capacitación, los participantes explorarán maneras en que los métodos de educación popular puedan ayudar a la organización comunitaria, y poner en práctica el desarrollo del currículo de educación popular en un ambiente colaborativo.
April 29 / 10 – 2 PM: BRINGING IT BACK HOME: APPLYING COMMUNITY BASED RESPONSES TO VIOLENCE/REGRESANDO A NUESTRA PROPRIA HISTORIA: APLICANDO PRACTICAS COMUNITARIAS EN RESPUESTA A LA VIOLENCIA
CREATIVE INTERVENTIONS – Rachel Herzing
In this workshop, we’ll share examples, struggles, and strategies that Creative Interventions (CI) used in developing a model for addressing interpersonal violence without relying on state-based or social service approaches. Drawing from CI’s Community-Based Interventions pilot project, we’ll explore the context of community accountability from which CI’s model developed, think through different ways in which community-based responses to harm and violence have been used and give participants hands-on opportunities to imagine how they might respond to the kinds of violence facing their own communities.En este taller, compartiremos ejemplos, luchas, y estrategias que Creative Interventions usaron en desarrollar un modelo para tratar con la violencia interpersonal sin depender en metodos a base estatal o de servicios sociales. Utilizando el proyecto piloto de CI, Exploraremos el contexto de la responsabilidad comunitaria de los cuales se desarrollaron los modelos de CI, analizaremos varias maneras distintas en cuales se han utilizado las respuestas sobre los daños y la violencia y brindarie a los participantes oportunidades interactivas para imaginar como ellos pdrian responder a los tipos de violencia que viven en sus proprias comunidades.

It’s not just research – it’s knowledge engineering to build a world based on our truths. The Data Center unlocks the power of community knowledge for change – by putting the tools of research and information into the hands of people organizing to make change. This workshop will be inter-active, deploy appropriate political ammunition for an organizing agenda, include hands-on exercises to assess critically relevant information and develop means of attaining it. We will introduce user-friendly tools that are aligned with your organizing goals and base to help you develop achievable and realistic research projects that consider your resources, capacity and timeline.No se trata sólo de investigación – si no conocimiento e ingeniería para crear un mundo basado en nuestras verdades. El Centro de Datos abre el poder del conocimiento de la comunidad para el cambio – al poner las herramientas de investigación en las manos de las personas organizando para crear cambios. Este taller será interactivo, utilizará munición adecuada para una agenda organizativa, incluyendo ejercicios interactivos para evaluar información relevante, y desarrollar los medios para lograrlo.
